Review
- His will
- Eternal life is to know: to know by experience, intimately and personally
- Fellowship: partnership, (literally) participation, or (social) intercourse
- God’s jealousy: He wants something for you–not from you.
- The ministry of the Holy Spirit
The Word
- 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV
- 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. II Timothy 2:15 NKJV
The Witness
- You learn to be lead by the inward witness–by testing it against the word.
- 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God… Romans 8:16 NKJV
- 1 I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit… Romans 9:1 NKJV
- Conscience: the voice of your spirit
- Strong’s: co-perception
- Thayer’s: literally, “joint-knowledge”
- Vine’s: literally, “a knowing with, a co-knowledge (within oneself)”
- Conscience: the voice of your spirit
- 15 And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always]. Colossians 3:15 AMPC
- As you mature in your relationship and learn to hear from Jesus, your understanding is increased and His communication gets more detailed.
Wisdom
- Sometimes, if the answer isn’t clear, it’s because you have the wisdom to make the decision yourself…or God wants you to learn wisdom.
- 4 To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion— Proverbs 1:4 NKJV
- Prudence: trickery; or (in a good sense) discretion…recognizing Satan’s treachery
- Knowledge: in contrast to knowing through reflection is knowing through experience with the senses, by investigation and proving , by reflection and consideration based on firsthand knowledge
- Discretion: a plan, usually evil (machination), sometimes good (sagacity)
- The Spirit guides into all truth–not just convenient truth, or Bible truth, but all truth.
- 1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. 2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:1-2 NKJV
- 1. The Spirit of wisdom and understanding relates to the powers of mind.
- Wisdom discerns the nature of things, understanding discerns their differences.
- 2. The Spirit of counsel and might relates to practical activity.
- Counsel is the ability to draw right conclusions; might is the power exercised to carry them out
- 3. The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord relates to fellowship with the Father.
- Knowledge here is intuitive knowledge, and the fear of the Lord is honor.
- Disciple = apprentice
- 1. The Spirit of wisdom and understanding relates to the powers of mind.
- As you walk through and navigate your life, your relationships, your circumstances, He’s teaching you how to be like him
The How
- 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:5-8 NKJV
- Reproach: defame, revile, find fault
- Faith: persuasion, to be persuaded
- Doubt: to differ
- Double-minded: two-souled
- You can’t be afraid to make mistakes. If you miss God, He will find you.
- 9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9 NKJV
- 1 Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain Jewish woman who believed, but his father was Greek. 2 He was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium. 3 Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in that region, for they all knew that his father was Greek. 4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily. Acts 16:1-10 NKJV
- 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
- He is gentle and lowly in heart towards you. He is not pushy. He is patient. He is meek.
- Yoke is easy: custom-made
- 28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
