Habits That Matter – Part 1

Message Date: January 2, 2022
Bible
  • Resolve: “fixity of purpose”
  • Habits are more about who you’re being and who you’re becoming than what you’re doing.
  • God has resolutions for you:
    • “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
      • Formed: created
      • Sanctified: set apart; redeemed
  • God’s purpose for you:
    • ‭‭11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
      • Thoughts: (Hebrew) intention; plan
      • Peace: (Hebrew) completeness, soundness/, welfare (nothing missing, nothing broken)
      • Hope: confident expectation; anticipation
  • The great thing is, we get to play a part.
    • 10 For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
      • Workmanship: (Greek) poiema
        • You are a poem written by God himself, and you get to play a part in the writing…
  • I want habits that lead me to who God created and redeemed me to be.
    • There are paths He would have us walk in that lead us to the kind of life that He designed just for us–individually.
  • 15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:15-17‬ ‭NKJV
    • Circumspectly: exactly; accurately; diligently
    • Redeeming the time: to buy up, to ransom, to rescue from loss
