Memorials of Faith – Part 1

Message Date: November 14, 2021
Bible
  • Memorials of faith are born out of vision, or need, or desperation–whatever the reason, you are in a position where “God has to move”.
    • Wherever you are–whether God gave you a vision for the future, you are in need and seeking God, or you are in a desperate situation–God’s word works the same.
  • Memorials of faith are times where God remembers you with victories, and ever after, you remember God with a sacrifice of thanksgiving.
  • 8 The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and these shall be to you as an ordinance forever throughout your generations. “When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved from your enemies. 10 Also in the day of your gladness, in your appointed feasts, and at the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be a memorial for you before your God: I am the Lord your God.” ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭10:8-10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
    • When facing a challenge, we are to remember the faithfulness of God in the past.
    • Burnt offering and peace offering is a sacrifice of praise; a reflection of what God has done.
    • Whichever you are facing, a group response was intended by God.
  • When facing a problem, we have authority.
    • 18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew‬ ‭18:18-20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
      • “To bind” Definition: to bind tie, fasten; to bind, fasten with chains, to throw into chains; metaph.; Satan is said to bind a woman bent together by means of a demon, as his messenger, taking possession of the woman and preventing her from standing upright; to bind, put under obligation, of the law, duty etc.;  to be bound to one, a wife, a husband; to forbid, prohibit
      • “Loose” Definition: to loose one bound, i.e. to unbind, release from bonds, set free; of one bound up (swathed in bandages); bound with chains (a prisoner), discharge from prison, let go
      • “Agree” Definition: symphony; to agree together; to agree with one in making a bargain, to make an agreement, to bargain
  • Thanksgiving connects us to God’s faithfulness and our faith rises to meet God’s promise.
    • 23 And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. 24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, 25 who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: ‘Why did the nations rage, And the people plot vain things? 26 The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ.’ 27 “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together 28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. 29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Acts‬ ‭4:23-31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
      • The place was shaken because a mass response to the faithfulness of God in thanksgiving!
  • Where are you oppressed? Is it an opportunity to build a memorial of faith?  What is the significance of a memorial?
  • 1. Memorials of faith are the foundation of future victories.
    • ABC’s of faith–you need two kinds of knowledge to have strong faith: what God has said, and God’s faithfulness in the past.
      • 33 And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” 34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” 37 Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”  ‭‭I Samuel‬ ‭17:33-37‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
  • 2. Memorials of faith are the loudest voices in our hearts and minds. Never let a voice of defeat be a direction decider. Practice selective memory. Don’t let defeat define your future! God is your source.
    • 21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. 22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” 23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” Matthew‬ ‭16:21-23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
  • 3. Memorials of faith are door openers for a miraculous response from God.
    • 1There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!” And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. Acts‬ ‭10:1-4‬ NKJV
      • God can change policies, God can change hearts; these are set in motion by memorials of faith.
