  • Isaiah 42 is a prophetic picture of the work of Christ.
    • 7 To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house. Isaiah 42:7 NKJV
      • The only way Satan can blind you and keep you in darkness is to deceive you.
  • For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6 NKJV
    • There was nothing we could do on our own to escape from the darkness.
  • He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8 NKJV
    • Destroy: to loosen (implies to release)
    • Jesus did not do away with what bound her, but He released her from it.
  • Redemption was God’s way of making mankind righteous and releasing man from the works of the devil.
    • Redemption: to rescue and deliver from the bondage of sin and the penalties of God’s violated law (poverty, sickness, spiritual death)
  • The seven redemptive names of God – God has given us the redemptive right to expect these in the name of Jesus.
    • Jehova: He is that He is. He can’t NOT be.
      • Jehovah Jireh – the Lord will provide
      • Jehovah Shammah – the Lord is there (present)
      • Jehovah Ropha – the Lord Who heals you
      • Jehovah Tsidkenu – the Lord our Righteousness
      • Jehovah Nissi – the Lord our banner (victory)
      • Jehovah Shalom – the Lord our peace

  • 22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, 26 and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” Exodus 15:22-26 NKJ
    • A continuation of Passover
    • God passes judgement that allows the destroyer access.
  • 23 For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. Exodus 12:23 NKJV
    • The blood of the Lamb
    • Eat the sacrifice
    • Burn the rest
  • 37 He also brought them out with silver and gold,
And there was none feeble among His tribes. Psalm 105:37 NKJV

    • Not one was sick.
  • Three trees:
    • 1.) The Exodus tree
      • This was the first miracle after the Red Sea.
      • Bitter waters made sweet
    • 2.) The tree of the Cross
      • 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 NKJV
      • Surely He has borne our griefs
        And carried our sorrows;
        Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
        Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
        He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5 NKJV

        • Griefs: sickness
        • Sorrow: pains
    • 3.) The tree of the curse
      • 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV
      • 61 Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the Lord bring upon you until you are destroyed. Deuteronomy 28:61 NKJV
        • All diseases are included in the curse.
  • How do we apply this to our lives?
    • 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. James 5:15-18 NKJV
      • The prayer of Faith
      • Instant vs. process
      • What God gives is power.
