Review

  • But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭4:4-5‬ ‭NKJV
    • Fullness: pleroma (play-row-mah); Strong’s #4138: Full number, full complement, full measure, copiousness, plenitude, that which has been completed. The word describes a ship with a full cargo and crew, and a town with no empty houses. Pleroma strongly emphasizes fullness.
  • Christmas is a reminder that God is:
    • 1.) Sovereign
    • 2.) Faithful
    • 3.) Present and involved
  • “My times are in Your Hands…..” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭31:15‬ ‭NKJV

Pregnant with Purpose

  • 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.” 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. ‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:26-38‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
    • Why Mary?
      • Verse 32: keeping His promise to David
      • Verse 37: literally, “No word of God is void of power.”
        • “For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.” Luke 1:37 AMPC
      • Verse 38: She was willing.
        • Pregnant with the purpose of God.
      • “For many are called, but few are chosen.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:14‬ ‭NKJV
        • ‬‬The ones that are chosen are the willing ones who respond in faith.
      • But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
  • Mary did you know?
    • 46 And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. 48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. 49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name. 50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty. 54 He has helped His servant Israel, In remembrance of His mercy, 55 As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever.” Luke‬ ‭1:46-55‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
        • Based on Hannah’s song: 1 And Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord. I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God. “Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the Lord is the God of knowledge; And by Him actions are weighed. “The bows of the mighty men are broken, And those who stumbled are girded with strength. Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, And the hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, And she who has many children has become feeble. “The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up. The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory. “For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, And He has set the world upon them. He will guard the feet of His saints, But the wicked shall be silent in darkness. “For by strength no man shall prevail. 10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken in pieces; From heaven He will thunder against them. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth. “He will give strength to His king, And exalt the horn of His anointed.” 1 Samuel 2:1-10. NKJV
      • 1.) Mary was willing to base her personal spiritual experience on what the Word said.  Mary was aware of what God was calling her to do.  She was a person of the Word and, as such, pregnant with purpose.
      • 2.) She was willing to face the hardships that would inevitably result from her accepting the purpose of God.
    • Joseph: 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. Matthew‬ ‭1:19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
      • Just = righteous (right standing)
    • Mary was 16-18. They were betrothed.
      • Not everyone will believe or understand what God has called you to do. But He is faithful to give you favor with people.
    • Joseph merciful to Mary (parallels Jesus and the adulteress).
  • She was willing to face the persecution of God’s purpose.
    • 25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: 29 “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation 31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, 32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.” 33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against 35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭2:25-35‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
      • Vs. 34 Not everyone will accept God’s purpose–and some will even resist it.
      • Vs. 35 Sometimes it will  hurt your heart to walk your kids through life and see God’s purpose fulfilled in their life.
  • She was willing to be corrected .
    • 46 While He was still talking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. 47 Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.” 48 But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” 49 And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! 50 For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12:46-50‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
      • Mary had come with her other sons to influence Jesus to do things differently.
  • She was willing to trust in and participate in God’s purpose in her.
    • 1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” 11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. John 2:1-11 NKJV
      • First miracle; sets precedent. This shows us how miracles occur.
      • Mary gives us two keys:
        • 1. Whatever He tells you to do, you’re capable of doing. He will give you the man side.
        • 2. Do whatever He says, be careful not to reason yourself out of it. Don’t talk yourself out of it.
        • 3. Filled them to the brim… They did it to the max!!
    • The widow and the oil: 18 Then he said, “Take the arrows”; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; so he struck three times, and stopped. 19 And the man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it! But now you will strike Syria only three times.” ‭‭II Kings‬ ‭13:18-19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
  • She was willing to face the pain of God’s purpose.
    • 25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. ‭‭John‬ ‭19:25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
  • But her due season came: 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. ‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
